Manual Digital Crop Assessment

Manual Digital Crop Assessment

Crop assessment is a crucial step in optimizing cultivation strategies and improving product quality.
The LetsGrow platform offers growers and specialists a powerful digital environment where crop assessment is not only more efficient but also more consistent and data-driven.
Thanks to the integration of data from climate computers and various sensors, LetsGrow enables users to enrich crop assessments with objective insights.
Platform features such as crop registration, multimedia uploads, and analysis tools make it possible to identify trends, detect anomalies early, and support decisions with data.
This guide provides a step-by-step approach to making optimal use of the LetsGrow platform for crop assessment, helping users work efficiently while contributing to a future-oriented and precision-driven cultivation practice.

Creating Multimedia for Digital Crop Assessment

Using photos and videos is a valuable addition to digital crop assessment.
Multimedia provides visual context to observations and allows for more accurate documentation and sharing of anomalies, growth stages, and quality characteristics.
The LetsGrow platform supports uploading multimedia directly linked to crop registrations, making visual data easily integrated into cultivation analysis.

Best Practices for Filming Crops

To ensure the quality and usefulness of multimedia, we recommend following these guidelines when filming:
  1. Use a stable camera
Keep a steady hand or use a tripod to avoid shaking.
  2. Film in natural light
Avoid overexposure or shadows. Preferably film in the morning or early afternoon.
  3. Focus on the subject
Ensure the crop is clearly visible. Avoid background noise or distractions.
  4. Capture both overview and detail shots
Start with a wide view of the crop and then zoom in on specific features such as leaf color, fruit development, or anomalies.
  5. Use a fixed sequence
For example, film from above, then from the side, and finish with a close-up. This helps with assessment and comparison.
  6. Limit video duration
Keep videos short and focused (maximum 5 minutes per clip).

Coordination with Team Members

It is essential to align these filming guidelines with other members of the digital crop assessment team.
By making joint agreements on image quality, sequence, and file naming, a uniform workflow is created that simplifies assessment and strengthens collaboration.
Discuss, for example:
  1. The number of plants to be filmed
  2. Which features should be captured
  3. Who is responsible for uploading
By using multimedia purposefully and consistently, digital crop assessment via LetsGrow becomes not only visually richer but also more reliable and efficient.

Uploading Multimedia

The LetsGrow platform allows users to create and upload videos directly via the mobile app as part of digital crop assessment.
This makes it easy to capture visual observations and link them to cultivation data, wherever you are.

Installing the App

The LetsGrow Data app is available for Android, iOS, and Windows.
You can download the app from the regular app stores.
If you don’t have the app on your device yet, search for “LetsGrow Data” in your app store and install it.

The LetsGrow Crop Registration app is only available for tablets.
Go to your device’s app store (App Store for iOS, Google Play Store for Android, or Microsoft Store for PC), search for “LetsGrow.com Crop Registration app,” and download/install the app.

Logging In

After installation, log in with your existing LetsGrow.com username and password.
Don’t have an account yet? Create one via https://www.letsgrow.com/register/.
Info
Important: Always start the app with an active internet connection to receive the latest updates.
Data registration can be done offline, but synchronization requires a connection.

Selecting the Correct Module

After logging in, you’ll enter the app’s main screen. To upload videos for crop assessment, it’s important to select the correct crop registration module.

  1. Go to “Select module.”
  2. Choose the module where the crop registration is being done.
  3. If it’s not listed, click the refresh button in the top right corner to update the module list.

Creating or Uploading a Video

Click the paperclip icon next to the selected module. A pop-up will appear with the following options:
  1. Select a photo
  2. Take a photo
  3. Select a video
  4. Record a video
  5. Add a comment
Choose “Record a video” or “Select a video” depending on your situation. Add a brief description if needed to explain what is shown in the video.
Info
Info: Since the system doesn’t always detect when a video was recorded, the upload timestamp is used. Therefore, use clear filenames and descriptions.
Click “Save” to store the video.

Sending to LetsGrow.com

To finalize linking the video to your crop data, click “Send data.” This uploads the video to your MyLetsGrow environment, making it available for further analysis and assessment.

The Digital Excursion Dashboard

In the Digital Excursion dashboard, videos will automatically be available per crop.
In addition to the multimedia tile, you’ll also see overviews of cultivation, water, and crop registration data.
The crop quality feature can also be used within the Digital Excursion dashboard.

Assessments Overview

The dashboard also includes an overview of assessments. Here, different evaluations can be viewed and entered.
It is important that the entered assessments are correctly linked to the crops.
  1. Each assessment item is marked with a number, such as (1), (2), etc.
  2. At the top of the table, each crop is also numbered (e.g., Crop 1, Crop 2, etc.).
  3. Make sure to enter assessment (1) under Crop 1, (2) under Crop 2, and so on.
Info
Important: This numbering must match to ensure the data is correctly linked and can be analyzed accurately.
